CHA Anaheim: Claudine Hellmuth’s Class

Kelly, Claudine, and Tiff

Claudine Hellmuth Studio Time: CHA Winter 2010 Workshop

THIS CLASS ROCKED! And I STILL have paint on my nails! Kelly, Jenn, Lisa, Gina, and myself all sat down for 3 hours to make an altered album incorporating TONS of techniques and TONS of different products! Claudine, Ranger, and other manufacturers were kind enough to donate a product bag valued well over $100 for us to use and keep! This class was only $25!!! And Claudine is SWEET AS PIE!

We learned the following techniques:

  1. Gesso Etching (Gesso, Layer on thick and then create texture designs with toothpick, dries white)
  2. Gesso Transfer (Laser printed picture and Gesso, allow FULL time to dry, heavily mist, and rub paper off)
  3. Watermark Resist (Stamp, paint over with light wash)
  4. Watermark Resist Peeled Paint (direct to paper contact with inkpad, then light wash)
  5. Extra Time Stamping (Extra time and paint 3:1, mix, then apply with inky roller. Because extra time extends the paint it doesn’t dry on your stamps and allows you to use over and over.)
  6. Extra Time Faux Paste Paper (Extra time and Paint 3:1, mix brayer onto glossy paper, then comb texture marks)
  7. Extra Time Reverse Stamping (Extra time and Paint 3:1, apply paint to glossy paper in a thick layer with brayer, stamp into the gesso mix. Repeat)
  8. Extra Time Tinted Paper (Extra time and Paint 3:1, paint over paper)
  9. Extra Time Tinted Photo (Extra time and Paint 3:1, use fingers to apply gently over black and white photo)
  10. Dry Embossed Sticky-Back Canvas (run through cuttlebug, apply paint using blending tool in buffing motions)
  11. Transfer onto back of Sticky-Back Canvas (peel backing off sticky-back canvas, burnish scrapbook paper using scraper, heavily mist, and rub paper off revealing image)
  12. Embossing with Perfect Pearls on Sticky-Back Canvas (de-emboss sticky-back with cuttlebug, apply watermark marker into scores, dust perfect pearls, mist with water to set)
  13. Faux Batik on Sticky-Back Canvas (take foam stamp and stamp into gloss multi-medium, stamp onto sticky-back canvas, repeat multiple times, allow time to dry, then apply light paint wash)
  14. Sticky-Back Canvas Heat Embossing (peel back of sticky-back, apply mask, sprinkle EP, gently remove mask, heat to emboss)
  15. Acrylic Watercolor (archival stamped image on watercolor paper, apply small amount of paint to craft sheet, mist several times, mix, and use paint brush to apply color to watercolor paper image)
  16. Multi-Medium Transparency******** (apply multi-medium to base, then adhere transparency, it dries clear, THIS IS AN AWESOME medium for adhering transparencies or vellum)
