Lawn Fawn: Helmar

Hello!

Today marks the 2nd day of the Helmar and Lawn Fawn Week! The entire Design Team has incorporated their favorite Helmar Adhesives with their Lawn Fawn projects! Kelly asked all of us if we wouldn’t mind using some Helmar adhesives with our projects and there were hand’s down NO objections 😉

My favorite products are the Scrapdots and the V2 Vellum Spray. As you can see, I used the Scrapdots for my puffy cloud and smiling sun on my card! I just love the dimension you can really build with the Scrapdots and there’s no fussing with cutting and removing paper backings 😉 I typically use my pink ATG gun, but used the Quickfix Adhesive Runner instead. I found that the adhesive has a great hold and for people looking for something more compact, it’s perfect. I will definitely be bringing my adhesive runner with me to my next crop to cut back on bulk! I also used the Gemstone Adhesive for my flowers. You know how those suckers always fall off their glue dots! The last thing I used was the 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. It worked fine for the flock, but it has a tricky nozzle and I’m certain I’m not using it correctly….lol!

As for my card, I used Lawn Fawn Stamp Sets Partly Cloudy, Hello Friend, and Petite Florals. I used Design Memory Craft Stamper’s Big Brush Markers in Pink Madder, Cadmium Yellow, and Light Turquoise.

Anyways, it was fun creating with some of my favorite products! It was sorta like a free-for-all DT project!

Thanks for dropping by and be sure to check out The Lawn Fawn Blog all week for this awesome collaboration!

Sketchy Sunday {TG022}: Video Time!

Hello Everyone!

Long time, no see! This week has been KILLER for me. I had a TON of assignments due (some of which I am still working on) and what do ya know… My mojo up and left the building! LOL! So, I tried to take my own advice, and I left my work alone for a bit to live life. Well, it worked, SORTA, and lasted for a day. Then, I just started to get my hands busy making ANYTHING and I busted out some cards and layouts. After that, there was no mojo whatsoever. So, I turned to the good ole sketch book and started sketching anything that popped into my brain. And, when that didn’t work, I went through every sheet of pattern paper I own, every embellishment, every stamp set, and voila! I found some wood veneer from Creative Imaginations in a random kit (where it didn’t belong). I was instantly inspired! I started doodling on the untouched sheet with some of my Stamper’s Big Brush Markers and I was amazed by the high pigmented color quality! So, that’s where this whole idea of making a video came into play 😉

I asked you guys what you do when the mojo is depleted and many of you said that you went through your google reader, looked at Pinterest, or scanned through old projects. I’m sorta the opposite. My mind needs to be at rest before I create. Too much eye candy makes my mojo all muddled! Man, Mojo sure is a moody child 😉

Sketchy Sunday {TG021}: OhMyCrafts Live Demo!

Good morning!

Yup, it’s another Sketchy Sunday Sketch 🙂 This week was Lawn Fawn’s release week and I didn’t want to crowd the blog, so here’s another one for ya 😉 This sketch is based off a card I designed for the OhMyCrafts UStream Demo that I taught using Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft products: Art Grip Aquarelles (Yellows) and a Stamper’s Big Brush Marker (Nougat). I had a ton of fun teaching the class!

Have a fabulous rest of your weekend,

Sketchy Sunday {TG020}

Happy Saturday everyone!

I taught my first live demo on the OhMyCrafts UStream for Faber-Castell’s Design Memory Craft line and I had a blast 🙂 It’s my goal to teach on a regular basis for the manufactures that I design for. I honestly think it’s my calling as I love teaching other crafty people! It’s all about sharing your knowledge to allow others to grow creatively! Anyways, here’s another Sketchy Sunday Sketch. I’ll have another one tomorrow based off of one of the cards I designed for the UStream broadcast!

Watercoloring is so “in” right now, lol, but I felt like I’ve never left it…heehee! I have two different ways of watercoloring on this card, one with the Design Memory Craft Gellatos and another with Art Grip Aquarelle Pencils. The little accents are done with the Stamper’s Big Brush Markers! Don’t you love that fun border stamp? That was from the latest Studio Calico kit! LOVE that kit! And the butterfly stamp is Memory Box. I also made a fun sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Smitty’s ABCs alphabet stamp set.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing what you have in store for this sketch! If you don’t mind sharing, what are your crafty goals? Is it to create for your family, to be published, or to teach like me?

Lisa Spangler’s Card Photography Series

Good Morning!?

Today is a good day! We’re over that weekly HUMP, Lawn Fawn just released their new stamps, and Friday is right around the corner!

Did you see Lisa’s post on Card Photography? Did you see her pictures? Those are unedited (besides having been cropped) with no flash, external pop-up flash, or fancy umbrella lights of ANY kind! I am impressed…far from impressed, I’m amazed. Her directions to each us were to print out her card on white cardstock and to set our cameras to AWB (auto white balance), to focus on the airplane, and take a shot. We were also told to photograph in places we wouldn’t normally photograph.

Here are my shots (please excuse my smudgy card):

Because I live in the NW, we don’t get a whole lot of sunshine, here’s a shot on the boy’s bathroom counter (where we get the most light). It’s still very dull.

Another bathroom shot on the toilet…giggle.

On the toilet at a different angle…

My Bedroom on my tall dresser.

My Bedroom, on my hubby’s dresser.

In the boys’ room on their carpet. I’m no longer a fan of funky angle shots 😉

In the boys’ room on their shelving…

In my room, on my bed. This is my favorite shot of the sorry lot.

What did I learn? I learned that I should always use my lightbox and my external pop-up flash for card shots… Nah, just kidding. I learned that natural light can be found in interesting places, even in the PNW! I also learned more about focusing in manual mode. The most important thing I took away from this was the importance of composition! I guess the key is to make the most of your lighting, to focus well, and consider your surroundings when composing a shot.

Okay, now I’ll go back to my external pop-up flash and my lightbox. Oh and so that all of you know, I always adjust my white balance and sharpen my photos a bit in PSE9. I try to make them look as true to the project as possible.

Here’s my gear:

Canon Rebel XT, Canon 50mm Prime Lens, Canon Speedlite 430EX, a homemade lightbox, and PSE9. Note: I do not use my external flash WITH my lightbox. The external flash helps with photographing large projects that don’t look good in the lightbox.

Thanks for dropping by,

Lawn Fawn Sneak Peek #2: Bon Voyage {Layout}

Hello and welcome to the 2nd Lawn Fawn Sneak Peek!

This layout is the result of about a month of planning! I had to wait for a sunny day, for this spot on the lake to be completely people free, and I had to set up just the right shots, which is quite difficult with 2 crazy boys! LOL! I am 100% happy with this! Usually I’m at about a 90%…heehee. My boys adore all things that fly and we live near an airport on an Army/Airforce Base, so they get to see lots of helicopters and airplanes! The lake is one of their favorite sky gazing spots!

I hope you’ll check-in over at the Lawn Fawn Blog and see what the rest of the Design Team has in store for ya:
