MIX-blinkie

_MG_7406Good Morning Blogosphere!

I’ve been having so much fun revisiting all of your blogs and commenting! All 3 of my kids are sick, but I’m finding some awesome ways to fill my time!

I’m so so so excited about a new challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com that will start February 1st!

It’s the Mix-ability Challenge featuring all things mixed-media!!! WOOT WOOT! I’ll be hosting some of the challenges, so I hope you’ll join us! We’re aiming to show that you don’t have to be scared of mixed-media! It’s fun and there are many easy ways to incorporate mixed-media into your everyday 🙂

The card I made for this post is a simple way to use mixed-media to make clean & simple cards! I stamped my birds and sentiment using the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Stamper’s Big Brush Pens, then I edged the perimeter of the card front with gelato and watered it down! Because the Design Memory Craft products are designed to Mix and Match, it was easy to pick colors that would sing! The final touch was in adding some vintage sequins with a bit of adhesive!

A Very Fawnie Valentine!

TiffsValentine2013Hello Fellow Fawnies!!!

This week, the Lawn Fawn Design Team is featuring Valentine’s Day projects!!!

I made this Lollipop Garden using several Lawn Fawn sets: bee mine, this way to fun, a birdie told me, and critters in the ‘burbs. The Lawn Fawn Patterned Paper is from the brand-spankin’ new collection, Pink Lemonade! And, I incorporated the Peppermint Lawn Fawn Trimmings into my project!

I used the For My Valentine SVG Kit from SVGcuts.com along with my Sizzix eClips electronic cutting machine to create the overall project. Mary and Leo have an awesome assembly tutorial for the project over at their site!

Be sure to check out the other Valentine’s Day projects this week on the Lawn Fawn Blog!

Thanks for stopping by,

Falling for you

_MG_7404Good Morning!

How has your weekend been? All 3 of my kiddos are sick, so I’m getting some extra time in the craft room away from our normal hustle and bustle of short commutes!

This card is a great example of mixed-media made easy! I kept this two-layer card simple and went for coloring in an ómbre style for a big ole trending impact!

I used the Black Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Stamper’s Big Brush Pen to stamp the hearts and the sentiment. Then, I used the Art Grip Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils to color in the hearts. And, because our line is designed to Mix and Match, I used coordinating Stamper’s Big Brush Pens to stamp the washi border at the top! To finish it off, I add some tiny staple accents. EASY PEASY! Seriously-

Romance is in the air…

_MG_7375

Hello Blogosphere!

Romance is definitely in the air here at The Johnson House! I have valentine’s projects coming out my ears and the kids are already begging to make their valentine’s for school and for their deployed daddy!

Here’s a Valentine whose imagery says it all…hearts, victorian silhouettes, texture, and soft color. I combined some old Hambly product with Allison Kreft’s new line with Webster’s Pages! The little gold embossed hearts started off as foam dimensionals, then I added gold embossing powder, and heat set! They are a soon-to-be-released product from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

The little paper bag envie is a perfect spot for a gift card!

Materials: Allison Kreft Designs for Webster’s Pages (Kraft Paper Bag), Hambly Washi Tapes, Lawn Fawn Paper (Upbeat), Fancy Pants Filter Embellishment, Claudine Hellmuth Sticky-back canvas (natural), Sizzix Mini Silhouettes Movers & Shapers Die, Gold embossing powder, Recollections rhinestone swirl, Antique Linen distress ink

Tutorial: Trendy Triangles with Movers & Shapers

_MG_7369

There’s one trend you can’t deny right now….triangles! They were everywhere on the CHA Anaheim showroom floor, in every size, shape, material, color- you name it! Triangles are HOT!

Here’s a fun tutorial using a die you may already have on hand for Halloween! The Mini Scary Jack-o-Lantern Movers & Shapers Dies include little triangles for the eyes and nose!

To begin, you’ll need the following products: Sizzix Jack-o-Lantern Movers & Shapers Dies, Sizzix Vagabond Machine (or any other die-cutting embossing machine), the Movers & Shapers Base Tray, Spacer die (optional), Lawn Fawn (Bright Side Paper, Daphne’s Closet Paper, Grand Greetings Stamp Set), Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft (Stamper’s Big Brush Pen in Nougat, Gelatos in Pistachio, Butter Cream, and Cotton Candy), Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam Dimensionals

_MG_7358First, simply position the triangles as you see fit on the Movers & Shapers Base Tray.

_MG_7359Then, add your spacer die & card front. This die doesn’t cut, but keeps your material level for even cutting. You can find that this spacer is included with over Movers & Shapers Base Dies. Now, using two standard cutting pads, run the sandwich through your machine.

_MG_7361This is what it will look like when you’re done! Save those die-cut triangles…

_MG_7362Color and pop-up those triangles on your card front. I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos because they show up on darker cardstock colors very well.

_MG_7363Stamp your sentiment with a coordinating ink color onto a strip of cardstock!

_MG_7367Adhere the stamped sentiment strip onto the card front. Now, you can pop-up the whole card front onto some coordinating patterned paper!!!

_MG_7369And, viola! You’re done! AND, super on-trend 😉

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Quick & Easy: Thank You cards

_MG_7357

Good Morning Blogosphere!

If you’re like me, you have YET to send out those thank you cards for Christmas… I’m totally guilty! With my husband deployed, it’s been difficult to nail down some time for creating these suckers with the kids!

I came up with this quick & easy card using Lawn Fawn stamps and patterned paper (the new stuff, Daphne’s Closet). This is definitely easy to mass produce as well 🙂 My plan is to let the kids color the little birds!

Thanks for dropping by today,

Kid Art: Celebrating Diversity

_MG_7326Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!!!

In his honor, every year we have a little lesson in diversity with the kids. Afterward, we have some arts & crafts activity to tie it all together! This year, I decided to make a mini album to include all their drawings. I asked them to draw things that made them special, unique, and different. My oldest son took a very different approach than my youngest. My oldest drew things in relation to everyone else in the world and my youngest drew things very specific to himself.

To begin the album, I whipped up this album cover using Tim Holtz’s Grungeboard (6×6) with Lawn Fawn’s Bright Side Paper and had fun creating a mixed-media collage scene on top! I love how mixed-media is an exercise in “playing nice”! You can use many different mediums together to create something amazing…

First, I laid down some strips of washi tape. Then using my Clover mini iron, I melted several shades of green Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Papercrafter Crayons for the foreground and some blue Papercrafter Crayons for the sky. I went over the entire scene with Design Memory Craft Gelatos and blended everything with a wet waterbrush. It’s so cool how the watercolor resists the crayon meltings! Then I drew in some doodle clouds with the white Stamper’s Artist Pen!

Here’s the back cover:

_MG_7327

The meat of this mini-album is definitely the most important- the kids’ drawings! I threw in some overlays, stamped on vellum using Stamper’s Big Brush Pens, journaled with the PITT Metallic Pens, and colored with Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils!

_MG_7312Hello!

After being surrounded by so many creative minds and hot product, I feel ever-so-inspired! I incorporated some easy mixed-media techniques with this card!

That little camera started off as a naked wood die-cut. Then, I coated it with a layer of Earl Grey gelato. Once it was dry, I stamped onto it using the Violet Stamper’s Big Brush Pen!

The photo is a picture I took of my husband and son during our last fishing trip of the season using my Hipstamatic App 🙂

Let inspiration abound!!!!
